hofer powertrain acquires Mathwall

02.04.2015

hofer powertrain, a global provider of powertrain solutions, has acquired Mathwall, a Surrey based company, providing engine design, test and development services to the motorsport and automotive industries.

Established in the 1980's, hofer is a privately owned, German, automotive engineering consultancy with over 15 sites globally. hofer works with many of the world’s automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and automotive technology centres and has numerous powertrain components in low to high volume production.

The acquisition of Mathwall further builds on hofer powertrain’s growing presence in the UK, complementing its Warwick based transmission and driveline expertise in addition to the well-established Central European capability.

Established in 1967 by Stuart Mathieson and Peter Wallace, Mathwall swiftly became a highly regarded provider of skilled engineering services, including the successful preparation of racing cars for BMW, General Motors and Mazda. The company passed to Stuart’s son Mark in 2007. Whilst continuing to provide worldclassservices for historic race teams the business established a consulting arm focusing on modern road-car and motorsport engine design, development, test and supply. The acquisition has provided an opportunity to increase the rate of expansion with the recent addition of new highly experienced engineers and test facilities.

The business will be managed by David Waddilove, a Chartered Engineer with experience in design, development, calibration and optimisation of both road-car and motorsport engines. “This is an extremely exciting time for hofer and Mathwall. As well as providing a wealth of knowledge and investment allowing us to expand our engine capability within the UK, the hofer Group gives us access to a global platform from which we can sell our advanced product design, development and test competence”, says the managing director.

Mark will continue to work with Mathwall, primarily to oversee the historic engine activity.
